Why cannot fertilisation take place in flowers if pollination does not occur?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Pollination is the process of transfer of male gametes (anther) to female gamete (stigma) of a flower while fertilization means fusion of male and female gametes. If pollination does not occur, then, no male gamete will be present for fertilization to occur. Hence, fertilization cannot take place in a flower if pollination does not occur.
