White tooth enamel is calcium phosphate and a very hard substance, which gets affected when pH of our mouth falls below 5.5.
It happens because bacteria present in our mouth breakdown sugar and food particles into acids which damage our teeth by corroding them. To prevent tooth decay, after eating one should clean mouth thoroughly with tooth power or tooth paste, which is basic in nature. It nuetralises the excess of acid produced in the mouth.
