What is the ratio of radii of orbits corresponding to first excited state and ground state in hydrogen atom?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Since , `r, alpha,n^2`.
For ground state `n=1`
For `1^st` excited state, `n=2`
`therefore` Required ratio of radii of the orbits
`=((1)^(2))/((2)^(2))=(1)/(4)=1:4`

Assertion: In the duration electron jumps from fist excited state to ground state in a stationary isolated hydrogen atom, angular momentum of the electron about the nucleus is conserved.
