Why a signal transmitted from a TV tower cannot received beyound a certain distance ? Write the expression for the optimum separation separation between the receiving and the transmitting antenna.

A signal transmitted from a TV tower cannot be received beyound a centarin distance due to attenuation and curvature of earth. Every antenna has the range. Rahge is the distance between a source and a destination up to which a signal is received with sufficient strength.
Optimum distance between the receiving and transmitting antenna.
`d_(M)=sqrt(2Rh_(T))+sqrt(2Rh_(R))`
` "where R = Radius of earth "`
`h_(T)="Height of transmitting antenna"`
`h_(R)="Height of receiving antenna"`

A radiowave that travels in a straight line from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna is know as

Height h(400=m) from the ground at place A, from which the readiowaves can be transmitted. There is a receive at station B on earth at a distance d(=125km), which can receive the signal from station A. The radiowaves can reach the station B, either through earth's atmosphere or through satellite. There are four main layers in earth's atmosphere named D,E, F_(1) and F_(2) which play effective role in radio communication. The electron density of these layers is 4xx10^(8), 2xx10^(11),5xx10^(11) and 8xx10^(11)m^(-3) . The radius of the earth is 6.4xx10^(6)m . If the station A sends the T.V. signals, then the maximum area on earth upto which T.V. transmission can be received on earth is (average population density around the tower is 1000 km^(-2) )

A transmitting antenna of height 25 m is fitted at the top of a tower of height 20m. What is the height of the receiving antenna from ground level if the maximum distance between transmitting antenna and receiving antenna on ground is 56 km. Radius of earth = 6400 km.

Two identical antennas mounted on identical towers are separated from each other by a distance of 45 km. What should nearly be the minimum height of receiving antenna to receive the signals in line of sight? (Assume radius of earth is 6400 km)

Perhaps, the most commonly used mode of communication involves use of free space as a communication channel between transmitter and receiver. The various possible modes of using of free space have been described below Ground wave communication : This mode is used for low frequency as at high frequency, losses become large. This is useful for distance of the order of 1 km. Space wave communication: The signals are transmitted directly from transmitter to receiver. There is no limit to upper frequency, but its range is limited to few hundred kilometers. The range depends on the height of transmitting antenna Sky wave communication : The signals are sent towards sky They are reflected back towards earth by ionosphere. Its range can be above 500 km. But, very high frequencies (above 10 MHz) are not reflected back. Satellite communication: The signals that cannot be reflected back by ionosphere are reflected back by satellite. Moon is a passive satellite of earth. The cordless phone installed in a house uses
