Explain giving reason, how the resolving power of a compound microscope depends on the
(a) frequency of the incident light, (b) focal length of the objectives lens.

The resolving power of a compound microscope can be defied as the ability of the microscope to form separate images of two objects placed very close to each other and the minimum sepration is given by
`d_(min)=(1.22 lamda)/(2mu sin theta)`
Resolving power `=(1)/(d_(min))=(2mu sin theta)/(1.22 lamda)`
`c= v lamda`
(a) If frequency of the incident light increases, wavelength decreases so resolving power increases.
(b) When diameter of objective lens increases `theta` increases hence resolving power of microscope increases.
