Explain the action of dilute hydrochloric acid on the following with chemical equation.
(a) Magnesium ribbon (b) Sodium hydroxide
(c ) Crushed egg shells

The Mg ribbon is cleaned with sand paper to remove the impurities such as magnesium oxide formed due ti its reaction with oxygen. `MgO`, a stable compound, prevents or slow down the burning process of magnesium.
