Why is respiration considered an exothermic reaction ? Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Respiration is the process of oxidation of food, where the carbohydrate (glucose) in food is oxidized to carbon dioxide and water. During this process energy is released and hence the process is exothermic.
`C_(6)H_(12)O_(6)(s)+6O_(2)(g)to6CO_(2)(g)+6H_(2)O(g)+"Energy"`.
