(i) Obtian the expression for the cyclotron frequency.
(ii) A deuteron and a proton are accelerated by the cyclotron. Can both be accelerated with the same oscillator frequency ? Give reason to justify your answer.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(ii) For accelerating a charged particle the oscillator frequency should be same as the cyclotron frequency, which depends upon the charge as well as mass of charged particle `(v = (Bq)/(2 pi m))` As masses of a deuteron and a proton particles are different, they cannot be accelerated with the same ocillator frequency.
