What is the maximum number of spectral lines emitted by a hydrogen atom when it is in the third excited state ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Third excited state in hydrogen atom corresponds to n=4. Hence maximum number of spectral lines, which can be emitted, is =`(n(n-1))/(2) = (4(4-1))/(2) = 6`
