Water of crystallisation is the fixed number of water molecules present in one formula unit of the compound. The compound having ten water molecules as water of crystallisation in `Na_2CO_3.10H_2O` Its name is washing soda. Washing soda is obtained by heating baking soda and recrystallising the sodium carbonate obtained.
`2NaHCO_(3) overset("Heat") rarr Na_2CO_3 + H_2O + CO_2`
`Na_2CO_3 + 10 H_2O rarr Na_2CO_310 H_2O`
Uses of wahing soda :
(i) It is used in removing permanent hardness of water.
(ii) It is used in the manufacture of glass, soap and paper.
