Two cards are drawn at random and without replacement from a pack of 52 playing cards. Find the probability that both the cards are black.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is known that, in a deck of 52 cards, there are 26 black and 26 white cards.
Here, `n(S)=52`
Now, let the events that the first and second cards drawn are black be represented by `A` and `B`.
So, `n(A)=26`
Then, `P(A)={n(A)}/{n(S)}`
`=>P(A)=26/52`
`=>P(A)=1/2`
Also given that the cards are not replaced.
