Solve the equation `2x+1=x-3`and represent the solution(s)on (i) the number line(ii) the Cartesian plane.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given`2x+1=x−3`
`⇒2x−x=−3−1 ` by transposition
`⇒x=−4`
∴in the number line x gets the value −4 from 0 to −4 units.
In the cartesian plane the point lies at x−axis
∴ the y−co-ordinate is 0.
Thus the point (−4,0) lies at negative x−axis.
