Glass is an amorphous solid. Like liquids, it has a tendency to flow, though very slowly. This can be seen from the galss panes of windows or doors of very old buildings which are thickerat the bottom than at the top. Therefore, glass is considered as a supercooled liquid.

Pulfrich refractometer is used to measure the refractive index of solids and liquid. It consist of right angled prism. A having its two faces perfectly plane. One of the face is horizontal and the other is vertical as shown is figure. The solid B whose refractive index is to be determined is taken having two faces cut perpendicular to one another. Light is incident in a direction parallel to the horizontal surface so that the light entering the prism A is at critical angle C. Finally, it emerges from the prism at an angle i. Let the refractive index of the solid be mu and that of the prism A be mu_(0) (which is known). Here mu_(0)gtmu and by measuring i, mu can be determinged. Q. Refractive index of the solid (mu) in terms of mu_(0) and i is

A particle moves perpendicular towards a plane mirror with a constant speed of 4 cm//s .What is the speed of the image observed by an observed moving with 2 cm//s along the same direction? Mirror is also moving with a speed of 10cm//s in the opposite direction. (All speeds are with respect to ground frame of refrence)

Compreshension -I The experimental values of colligative properties of many solutes in solution resembles calculated value of colligative properties. However in same cases, the experimental value of colligative property differ widely than those obtained by calculation. Such experimental values of colligative properties are known as Abnormal values of colligative properties are : (i) Dissociation of solute : It increases the colligative properties. (ii) Association of solute : It decreases the colligative properties e.g. : Dimerisation of acetic acid in benzene One mole I_(2) (solid) is added in 1 M, 1 litre Kl solution . Then

A solid glass sphere with radius R and an index of refraction 1.5 is silvered over one hemisphere. A small object is located on the axis of the sphere at a distance 2R to the left of the vertex of the unsilvered hemisphere.
