Define the term 'amorphous'. Give a few examples of amorphous solids.

An amorphous solid consists of particles of irregular shape. In such solid, the arrangement of constituent particles has only short range order. In such an arrangement, a regular and periodically repeating pattern is observed over short distances only. Examples glass, rubber, plastics etc.
