Based on electron gas theory explain why metals are malleable.

When one part of the metal is heated the mobile electrons present absorb thermal energy and acquire large amount of kinetic energy. The mobile electrons move rapidly through the metal crystal and tranfer heat to the cooler part of the metal and heat gets conducted.
