(i) Reflection between diffraction from each slit to the interference pattern in a double slit experiment : (b) The diffraction pattern is itself due to interference of wavelength belonging to same.
(ii) Waves diffracted from the edge of the circular obstacle interfere constructively at the centre of the shadow producing a bright spot.

Answer the following questions: (e) Ray optics is based on the assumption that light travels in a straight line. Diffraction effects (observed when light propagates through small apertures/slits or around small obstacles) disprove this assumption. Yet the ray optics assumption is so commonly used in understanding location and several other properties of images in optical instruments. What is the justification?

(a) When monochromatic light is incident on a surface separating two media, the reflected and refracted light both have the same frequency as the incident frequency. Explain why? (b) When light travels from a rarer to a denser medium, the speed decreases. Does the reduction in speed imply a reduction in the energy carried by the light wave? (c) In the wave picture of light, intensity of light is determined by the square of the amplitude of the wave. What determines the intensity of light in the photon picture of light

The following figure shows a beam of light converging at point P . When a concave lens of focal length 16 cm is introudced in the path of the beam at a place shown by the dotted line such that OP becomes the axis of the lens , the becam converges at a distane x from the lens. The vlaue of x will be equal to
