Define molarity and molality.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Molarity is the number of moles of solute dissolved in one litre of the solution.
Molarity (M) = `("Moles of solute")/("volume of solution in litre")`
(ii) Molality is the no. of moles of the solute per kilograms of the solvent .
Molality (m) = `("Moles of solute ")/("Mass of the solvent in kg ")` .
