How is a polypeptide chain synthesis terminated during protein synthesis?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Synthesis of polypeptide chain terminates when a nonsense codon of mRNA reaches the A-site. There are three nonsense codon UAA, UAG and UGA, which are not recognized by any of the tRNAs. Therefore no more amino-acyl tRNA reaches the A site. The P site t-RNAs is hydrolysed and the completed polypeptide is released in the presence of GTP dependent release factor.

Name the site of protein synthesis.

After the addition of the last amino acid to a growing polypeptide chain during the process of protein synthesis, one of the termination codons reaches the appropriate site on the ribosomal surface and then the following envents take place (i) Release of t-RNA molecule from the ribosome. (ii) Dislodging of polypeptide chain from the t-RNA (iii) Dissociation of ribosomes into large and small subunits. ltBrgt The correct sequence of these events:
