Why is diffusion not sufficient to meet the oxygen requirements of all the cells in multicellular organisms ?

All the cells in multicellular organisms may not be in direct contact with the surrounding environment. Thus, simple diffusion will not meet the `O_(2)` requirements of the all the cells.
