Two lamps, one rated 100 W at 220 V, and the other 60 W at 220 V, are connected in parallel to elecbic mains supply. What currnent is drawn from the line if the supply voltage is 220 V?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`P_(1) =100` W ( For first lamp)
V = 220 V
`P_(1) = VI_(1)`
`I_(1)=(100)/(220) = 0.45 A `
Current in second lamp of power `P_(2)` = 60 W
`I_(2)= (P_(2))/(V) = (60)/(220) = 0.27 A `
`I = I_(1)+I_(2)=0.45+0.27= 0.72 A`
