Electronic configurations are: `A to 1 , B to 2 , 6 , C to 2, 8 , 1`,  and `D to 2,8,8,1`. Elements A, C, and D have one valence electron each while B has 8 - 6 = 2 valence electrons. Hence, B is the odd element.
