b] Given below are some of the elements of the first group: Li, Na, K (their atomic numbers are 3, 11, and 19 respectively and they belong to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th period respectively). Arrange them in the decreasing order of their metallic character.

a) Metallolds have properties in between those of metals and non-metals. Examples are silicon and germanium.
b) Li, Na, and K are placed in group one below the other. Since metallic character Increases down a group, K has the highest metallic character. Hence, in decreasing order of metallic character, the arrangement is: `K > Na > Li.`
