The electrons in the atoms of four elements A, B, C, and D are distributed in three shells having 1,3,5, and 7 electrons in their outermost shell respectively. State one period in which these elements can be placed in the Modern Periodic Table. Write the electronic configuration of the atoms A and D and molecular formula of the compound when A and D combine.

a] Since these elements have 3 shells, they are placed in the3rd period.
b] Electronic configuration: `A to 2, 8, 1` and `D to 2 , 8, 7`.
c] Both A and D have a valency of one and hence the compound formed by them has the formula AD.
