How will you infer with the help of an experiment that the same current flows through every part of the circuit containing three resistances in series connected to a battery?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The experimental set up comprises three resistors `R_(1),R_(2),andR_(3)` of three different values such as `1Omega,2Omegaand3Omega` which are connected in series. Connected them with a battery of 6 V, an ammeter and plug key, as shown in figure.

The key K is closed, and the ammeter reading is recorded. Now, the position of ammeter is changes to anywhere in between the resistors and the ammeter reading is recorded each time. It.s observed that there was identical reading each time, which shows that some current flows through every part of the circuit containing three resistances in series connected to a battery.

Will current flow more easily through a thick wire or a thin wire of the same material, when connected to the same source? Why?

In the given circuit, calculate the current through 3Omega resistor, when circuit is connected to 12V battery.

Two resistors are connected in series with 5V battery of negligible internal resistance. A current of 2 A flows through each resistor. If they are connected in parallel with the same battery a current of (25)/(3)A flows through combination. Calculate the value of each resistance.
