Why does a current-carrying conductor experience a force in a magnetic field?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

An electric current flowing through a conductor produces a magnetic field. As per Newton.s third law of motion, the magnet must also exert an equal and opposite force on the current-carrying conductor. Thus a current-carrying conductor experiences a force in a magnetic field. In 1820, French Scientist Andre Marie Ampere experimentally demonstrated the existence of this force.
