Explain the meaning of the term electromagnetic induction. On what factors do the induced current produced in a circuit depend ? Name and state the rule used to find the direction of induced current . State one practical application of this phenomenon in everyday life.

Text Solution

i] Electromagnetic induction produces an induced emf and hence an induced current in a closed circuit by changing the magnetic field.
ii] The value of current induced in a circuit depends on the rate of change of magnetic field and strength of the magnetic field.
iii] Fleming.s right hand rule is used to find the direction on induced current. This rule states that if the thumb, fore finger and middle finger of the right hand are stretched to be perpendicular to each other as shown in the figure, and if the thumb represents the direction of the motion of conductor, fore-finger represents direction of the magnetic field, then the middle finger represents the direction of the induced current.
iv] Electric generator is one practical application of electromagnetic induction.
