Why does a car parked in sunlight remain...

Why does a car parked in sunlight remain hot from inside even when there is no sunlight ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The gass windows have the peculiar property to pass through them only radiations which have wavelength near to the visible light or shorter wavelength. It does not allow infrared radiations of higher wavelength. Since the sun sends infrared radiations of lower wavelength, these pass through the glass windows and get inside the car as heat. Then, heat or infrared radiations of higher wavelength do not pass out of the car and thus heat gets trapped in the car for a longer time.
