The movement which was started in early 1970 in the village Reni in Garhwal by the women of Uttarakhand to stop felling of forest trees of their area is called Chipko Movement.
It was aimed at conserving the forests. We should conserve forests because:
They conserve biodiversity
They provide food and safeguard the tribals
They maintain ecological balance
