Only variations that confer an advantage to an individual organism will survive in a population. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

No. Not necessarily. Variations that are drastic get eliminated from the population as the cells with such variations do not survive.
But all other variations remain in a population. But all these variations in a species do not have equal chances of surviving in the environment. Depending on the nature of variations, different individuals would have different kinds of advantages. Variations that are advantageous to an organism will help the organism to survive better in the environment. So these will survive in the population.
Sometimes variations that do not confer any particular advantage or disadvantage to an organism may also survive in the population.
