Give reasons why acquired characters are not inherited. NCERT Exemplar

Text Solution

An individual cannot pass on its experiences of its lifetime to its progeny. These experiences do not bring in any change in the reproductive tissue of the individual. Change in nonreproductive tissues cannot be passed on to the DNA of the germ cells. Hence acquired characters cannot direct evolution.
