For a set of discrete numbers, three measures of central tendency are given below
1. Arithmetic mean
2. Median
3. Geometric mean
Which of the above measures may not have a meaningful definition?

A

1 only

B

2 only

C

3 only

D

All of them are meaningfully defined

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

`"(i) Arithmetic mean"=("Sum of all observations")/("Total no. of observation")`
(ii) Median = The midpoint of the data after being ranked (arranged in ascending order).
(iii) Geometric mean = If `x_(1),x_(2),x_(3)…..,x_(n)` and n values of a variate x, none of them being zero, then the geometric mean G is defined as `G=(x_(1)x_(2)x_(3).....x_(n))^(1//n)`.
Thuse, all of them are meaningfully defined.
