What are phylloclades? What are their functions ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Phylloclades are the stems and their branches which get modified into green flattened (e.g., Opuntia) or cylindrical (e.g., Euphorbia royleana) structures in some xerophytes and perform photosynthetic functions due to presence of photosynthetic pigments. They show unlimited growth and coated by thick cuticle or waxy surface to reduce transpiration.
