A bulb connected in series with an air-cored solenoid is lit by an a.c. source. If a soft iron core is introduced in the solenoid.

A

The bulb stops glowing

B

The bulb will glow brighter.

C

There is no change in glow of bulb.

D

The bulb will become dimmer.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

By placing soft iron core inside solenoid its self induction increases, so p.d. between its two ends increases `(V=L(dI)/(dt))` and p.d. between two ends of bulb decreases. Hence, bulb will become dim.
