What is heat capacity of a substance ?...

What is heat capacity of a substance ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The ratio of heat supplied `DeltaQ` to a substance to the change in its temperature `DeltaT` is called heat capacity.
`therefore` Heat capacity =`"Heat given"/"Change in temperature"`
`S=(DeltaQ)/(DeltaT)`
SI unit of heat capacity is `JK^(-1)` or `calK^(-1)`
The heat capacity of a body depends on the material of the body as well as on its mass. For different bodies, having different type of masses but of the same material, the value of heat capacity is different.
