Why are the equipotential surfaces about a single charge are not equidistant ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Electric field at a point distant r from a point charge Q is given as `E = (Q)/(4 pi in_(0) r^(2))` . As `E prop (1)/(r^(2))` , the field is non-uniform . Therefore , equipontential surfaces are not equidistant .
