Two lamps rated 100 W, 220 V and 10 W, 220 V are connected in parallel to 220 V supply.
Calculate the total current through the circuit.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Current passing through 1st bulb of 100 W, 220 V rating
`I_(1)=(P_(1))/(V_(1))=100/220=5/11=A`
and current passing through 2nd bulb of 10 W, 220 V rating,
`I_(2)=(P_(2))/(V_(2))=(P_(2))/(V_(2))=10/220=1/22=A`
Since two bulbs are connected in parallel, total current through the circuit
`I=I_(1)+I_(2)=5/11+1/22=11/22 A=1/2 A=0.5 A`
