Calculate the refractive index of the material of a glass slab. Given that the speed of light through the glass slab is `2 xx 10^(8) m//s` and in air is `3 xx 10A^(8) m//s`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As per question speed of light in air `c = 3 xx 10^(8) m s^(-1)`
and speed of light through the glass slab `v = 2 xx 10^(8) m S^(-1)`
`therefore` refractive index of glass slab n = `(c )/(v)=(3xx10^(8))/(2xx10^(8))=1.5`
