Write a shortnote on interhalogen compounds.

Verified by Experts

Halogens combine amongst themselves to form a number of compounds with formula `XX_(n)^(.)` (n = 1, 3, 5, 7) known interhalogens compounds.
X. : smaller size halogen atom
X: Larger size Halogen atom

The interhalogen compounds are formed due to difference in electronegativities of halogen. As the ratio between radii of X and X. increases, the number of atoms per molecule also increases. Thus, iodine (VII) fluoride has maximum atoms (8 atoms) per molecule.
