PH3 forms bubbles when passed slowly in ...

`PH_3` forms bubbles when passed slowly in water but `NH_3` dissolves. Explain why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`NH_3` forms hydrogen bonds with water because of high electronegativity of nitrogen hence it gets soluble in water. Phosphorus, however cannot form hydrogen bonds hence it forms bubbles in water.
