Write important results regarding electrostatic of conductors.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For this following are the results.
(1) The clectrostatk filed inside the conductor is zero.
(2) On the outer surface of the conductor the electric field at every point is perpendicular to the surface.
(3) The interior of a conductor can have no excess charge in the static situation.
(4) Electrostatic potential is constant through out the volume of the conductor and has the same value (as inside) on its surface.
(5) Electric field at the surface of a charged conductor is `vecE= (rho)/(in_(0)). hatn`
where
`rho`= surface charge density
`in_(0)` = permittivity of free space
`hatn` = unit vector normal to the surface in the outward direction.
(6) FJectric field inside the cavity of conductor is zero. Means, electrostatic shielding would developed.
