Write the types of dielectric and explain them. Give some examples of dielectric substance.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The molecules of a substance may be polar or non-polar so, there are two types of dielectric (1) Polar (2) Non-polar
(1) Polar Molecule : In a polar molecule, the centre of the positive charge and the centre of the negative charge is not coincide with each other such type of molecule is known as polar molecule.
The polar molecules possess a permanent dipole moment For examples : molecules of `H_(2)O , HCI`
Following figures shows polar molecules.

(2) Non-polar Molecule : In a non-polar molecule, the centre of the positive charge and the centre of a negative charge ls coincide with each other such type of molecule is lcnown as non-polar molecule.
The non-polar molecule do not possess a permanent dipole moment. For example : molecules of `O_(2), H_(2)`
Following figures shows nonpolar molecules ,
