4 `mu`F and 6 `mu`F capacitors are joined in series and 500 V are applied between the outer plates of the system. What is the charge on each plate '?

A

`1.2xx10^(-3) C `

B

`6.0 xx10^(-3)` C

C

`5.0 xx10^(-3) `

D

`1.0 xx10^(-3) ` C

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C

Equivalent capacitance of series connection of 4 `mu`F and 6 `mu`F is,
` C = (4xx6)/(4+6) `
`= (24)/(10)`
`= 2.4 mu F `
Total charge on capacitor is
Q = CV
`= 2.4 xx10^(-6) xx500 `
`= 12 xx10^(-4) = 1.2 xx10^(-3) C `
`:.` Charge on each plate as series connection is
`= 1.2 xx10^(-3) ` C
