(c) Must every magnetic configuration have a north pole and a south pole ? What about the field due to a toroid ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(c) It is not necessary that every magnetic configuration should have north pole and south pole. If the source of magnetic field has some net magnetic moment then only it has magnetic north pole and magnetic south pole, otherwise not. For example : toroid, current carrying ring, infinitely long current carrying straight thin wire do not possess magnetic north pole and magnetic south pole.
