A short bar magnet has a magnetic moment of `0.48 JT^(-1)`. Give the direction and magnitude of the magnetic field produced by the magnet at a distance of 10 cm from the centre of the magnet on (a) the axis, (b) the equatorial lines (normal bisector) of the magnet.

(a) For a short bar magnet, magnetic field at a far axial point is,
`B_(a) = (mu_(0) ) /( 4pi) ((2m)/( r^(3) ))`
`therefore B_(a) = ( 4pi xx 10^(-7) )/( 4pi)((2 xx 0.48) /( (0.1)^3) )`
`therefore B_(a) = 0.96 G`
(b) For a short bar magnet, magnetic field at a far equatorial point is,
`B_(e) = (mu_(0) )/( 4pi) ((m)/( r^(3) )) = (1)/(2) B_(a)`
`therefore B_(e)= 0.48 G`
