Essential difference between electrostat...

Essential difference between electrostatic shielding by a conducting shell and magnetostatic shielding is due to

A

electrostatic field lines can end on charges and conductors have free charges.

B

lines of `overset(to) (B)` can also end but conductors cannot end them.

C

lines of `overset(to) (B)` cannot end on any material and perfect shielding is not possible.

D

shells of high permeability materials can be used to divert lines of `overset(to) (B)` from the interior region.

The correct Answer is:
A, C, D

Electrostatic shielding is the phenomenon to block the effects of an electric field. The conducting shell can block the effect of an external field on its internal content. Hence option (D) is correct. We cannot stopped or shield magnetic field lines obtain by single pole which is not exist. Hence, complete shielding is not possible. Hence, option (B) is correct.
Magnetostatic shielding is done by using materials of a high permeability to prevent a external magnetic field inside it. Hence, option (D) is correct.

Assertion:A point charge q is placed near an arbitrary shaped solid conductor as shown in figures. The potential difference between the points A and B within the conductor remain same irrespective of the magnitude of charge q Reason: The electric field inside a solid conductor is zero under electrostatic conditions

When two concentric shells are connected by a thin conducting wire, whole of the charge of inner shell transfers to the outer shell and potential difference between them becomes zero. Surface charge densities of two thin concentric spherical shells are sigma and -sigma respectively. Their radii are R and 2R . Now they are connected by a thin wire. Suppose electric field at a distance r (gt 2R) was E_(1) before connecting the two shells and E_(2) after connecting the two shells, then |E_(2)/E_(1)| is :-

Suppose we want to verify the analogy between electrostatic and magnetostatic by an explicit experiment. Consider the motion of (i) electric dipole overset(to)(p) in an electrostatic field overset(to) (E ) and (ii) magnetic dipole overset(to)(M) in a magnetic field overset(to)(B) . Write down a set of conditions on overset(to)(E) , overset(to)(B), overset(to)(M) so that the two motions are verified to be identical. (Assume identical initial conditions.)
