10g of a liquid of density `5g cm^(-3)` is mixed with 12g of another miscible liquid of density `4g cm^(-3)`. Find the density of mixture.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Density of mixture `= (["Total mass of mixture"])/(["Total volume of mixture"])`
or Density of mixture, `D= (m_(1) + m_(2))/((m_(1))/(sigma_(1)) + (m_(2))/(sigma_(2))) = (sigma_(1) sigma_(2) (m_(1) + m_(2)))/(m_(1) sigma + m_(2) sigma_(1))`
`:. D= (5 xx 4 (10 + 12))/(10 xx 4 xx 12 xx 5) = (20 xx 22)/(40+60)`
`=(20 xx 22)/(100) = 4.4 g cm^(-3)`
`:.` Density of mixture of liquids = `4.4 g cm^(-3)`
