What is the role of pericycle in secondary growth of dicot roots?

The cells of pericycle lying opposite to the protoxylem divide to give rise to vascular cambium alongwith the parenchyma cells lying below the pholem patches. It forms a complete and continuous wavy cambial ring. Pericycle gives rise to lateral roots also.
