Water flows in a tank `60 m xx 40m` at the base through a pipe whose cross section is `2 dm` by `1.5 dm` at the speed of `8 km` per hour. In what time will the water be `5` metres deep ?

Let in `x` hours the water be `5m` deep in the tank.
Volume of water required in the tank `= (60 xx 40 xx 5) m^(3)`
Volume of water flown in the tank in `x` hours
`= ((2)/(10) xx (1.5)/(10) xx 8000 xx x) m^(3)`
`:. (2)/(10) xx (1.5)/(10) xx 8000 xx x = 60 xx 40 xx 5`
`rArr 240x = 60 xx 40 xx 5 rArr x = (60 xx 40 xx 5)/(240) rArr x = 50`
Hence, the required time is `50` hours.
