2.2 cubic dm of brass is to be drawn into a cylindrical wire 0.50 cm in diameter. Find the length of the wire.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Volume of brass `= (2.2 xx 10 xx 10 xx 10) cm^(3) = 2200 cm^(3)`
Radius of the wire = 0.25 cm
Let the required length of the wire be x cm.
Then, volume of the wire `= (pi r^(2)x)` cu units
`= ((22)/(7) xx 0.25 xx 0.25 xx x) cm^(3)`
`:. (22)/(7) xx 0.25 xx 0.25 xx x = 2200`
`rArr x = ((2200 xx 7)/(22 xx 0.25 xx 0.25)) = 11200 cm = 112m`
Hence, the length of the wire is 112m
