What is the maximum length of a pencil that can be placed in a rectangular box of dimensions `(8 cm xx 6 cm xx 5 cm)` ? (Given `sqrt5 = 2.24`)

A

8 cm

B

9.5 cm

C

19 cm

D

11.2 cm

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Required length `= sqrt(l^(2) + b^(2) + h^(2))`
`= sqrt(64 + 36 + 25) = sqrt125 = 5 sqrt5 = (5 xx 2.24) = 11.2 cm`
